Introduction to HVAC/R
Course Description: This introductory course is designed to provide students with a fundamental understanding of HVAC/R system operations, refrigeration, and safety practices.
Course Outcomes:
- Students will be able to demonstrate safe use of tools required to work on HVAC/R equipment.
- Students will be able to perform routine electrical checks on motors, switches, and loads.
- Students will be able to explain the basic concepts of HVAC/R.
- Students will receive the NCCER Core certification.
HVAC/R 201.2
Motors & Controls
Course Description: This course focuses on motor control specifically for common HVAC/R applications. It covers topics such as electrical safety, schematics, disconnects, protective devices, contractors, fan and blower motors, compressor motors, pressure switches, basic refrigeration control, air conditioning and heat pump control circuits, defrost timers, and auxiliary circuits.
Course Outcomes:
- Students will be able to describe the fundamentals of electricity.
- Students will be able to Identify the electrical measuring instruments used and common motors found in HVAC/R work and describe their uses.
- Students will be able to identify and describe the operation of common HVAC/R control circuit devices.
- Students will earn their EPA 608 Certification.
- Students will earn their Electrical for HVAC Certificate.
HVAC/R 201.3
Residential Cooling
Course Description: This course aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to understand, install, maintain, and troubleshoot AC systems commonly found in residential settings.
Course Outcomes:
- Students will be able to utilize proper installation techniques including sizing considerations, duct work, electrical connections, and placement of indoor and outdoor units for optimal performance.
- Students will be able to perform routine procedures such as cleaning coils, changing filters, checking refrigerant, and troubleshooting.
- Students will earn their Motor Troubleshooting Systems Certificate.
HVAC/R 201.4
Residential Heating
Course Description: This course aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to understand, install, maintain, and troubleshoot gas furnace and heat pump systems commonly found in residential settings.
Course Outcomes:
- Students will be able to identify the major components of a gas fired furnace in order to troubleshoot and repair heating systems.
- Students will be able to measure gas pressure.
- Students will be able to conduct gas flue combustion analysis.
- Students will earn their HVAC Diagnostics (ILT) Certificate
- Students will earn their HVAC NCCER Level 1 Certification
Upon successful completion, students will earn their:
- NCCER Core Certification
- EPA 608 Certification
- Electrical for HVAC Certificate
- Motor Troubleshooting Systems Certificate
- HVAC Diagnostics (ILT) Certificate
- HVAC NCCER Level 1 Certification
